Tell us about yourself and your people?
I am a korrigan, not a dwarf, an elf and definitely not a gnome. My people and I are native to Brittany, France. We may not be the most disciplined and focused folk, but we enjoy life and merriment. We love a good joke and highly impressed with juggling. Even farts smell sweet to us. We try to appreciate the simple things in life – family and friends. What is your occupation? I am Merlin’s apprentice and a potion master. My favorite concoction is mixing elixirs of love but will create potions for all sorts of ailments from tummy aches and ointments for injuries. On occasion, I am called on by Merlin to be his messenger to the outside world. I see myself as an ambassador between the enchanted world and the "real" world. What do you love most of all? My wife and family. My wife, Gwenaëlle is the love of my life. We have been together for more than ninety years. While she doesn’t approve of my work with Merlin, I truly believe she respects my duty to heed his call. Merlin’s missions always cultivate positive change in the enchanted world and man’s world. My children are my fancy. They are the reason why I want a better life for the entire enchanted forest. What do you dislike? Well, firstly, disrespect. When my people are called anything other than korrigan, it really gets my gut. Please, dwarves, elves, gnomes and korrigans are not all the same. I respectively ask to refer to us as korrigans. I love my forest, and all the forest folk, I dislike when people enter the forest and pollute, or cruelly attack or hunt my fellow creatures. I have no disdain for man, but I wish he would respect our ways and allow us to live in peace. What is your biggest fear? That the dark force will prevail over the forest. A dark shadow hangs over the forest, and where there is darkness, there is always fear, and that fear results in many things – anger, resentment and shame. I fear this darkness will never leave. What is your biggest hope? Where there is darkness, there is always bound to be a light. We need to find it, and often, it is where we least expect it. In my current case, lightness comes from three passionate boys – Raoul, Walter and William who care about the creatures of the forest and want to help us defeat the darkness that hangs over us. What is your favorite food? Gwenaëlle's honey nut cakes. She shares them with all who come to visit. They are delightful blend of hazelnuts, floral herbs like lavender and honey. What is your favorite color? Moss Green, especially the day after a saturating rain and it shines in the brilliant light of the sun. What is your message to all creatures of the enchanted forest and men? Trust and faith in the goodness of one another. I know it’s hard when times seem dark and no goodness can be found. When we open our hearts, even to those we fear, we are all destined to find peace.

I am looking forward to being count of my castle because I like working with people and caring for animals. I have decided I will be a good Count, one werepeople will like to work for. Do you have any siblings and where do you fall in birth order?
I had three sisters, Elnora, Beladoraand Alana. I used to have much fun with them. We would frolic in our ponds and travel to other lakes in Brittany and swim with the carp. Where did you grow up? Do you still live here and how do you feel about it? I was born and grew up in the enchanted forest in Brittany. It was a beautiful place to live until a bad prince, Prince Ulrionentered with his men. They created much havoc in the forest – hunting the animals and terrorizing korrigans. These men destroyed everything that was good in my forest, as well as my sisters. Since then, I have been angry and lashed out at any man who crossed my path. What would you consider your most admirable quality? I have great love for all the creatures of the enchanted forest, and I feel I must protect them with my shape-shifting abilities. If men enter the forest, I will use my talents to protect the forest I love. What do you do about negative feelings? Unfortunately, I suppress them. Who is your best friend and why? BugulNoz. He is a hideous little tree troll, but he has the most beautiful spirit that warms my broken heart. With all the anger and fear in the forest, BugulNozhas the strength to remain kind and helpful. He gives me hope that I may find that again in myself. What is your most pressing problem now and what are you going to do about it? Men have once again entered the forest and a dark force is haunting them. I feel a tug between trying to protect my forest from these new hunters and the dark force that wants to destroy us all. Is there something or someone else who needs the same thing? An annoying little boy came to ask for my help. His name is Raoul, but he has such passion to help me and all the enchanted forest. I fell in love in with his spirit and he helped me find mine purpose again. What is your favorite color? Blue…bluish green. The deep color of the pond just as the sun sets. What do you like to eat? Water lily flowers are delicious. Name something that gives you much joy? Lounging under the waterfall of my pond
Would you rather be doing something else? Yes! Being King isn’t all that great. Usually, when I am seated on my throne, I envy the people that come before me. They have the freedom to be what they want to be, and they have the freedom to love who they want. I always had wanderlust. I loved to travel. I think if I had my choice, I would want to be a merchant. I would love to travel and collect exotic items from around the world.
Were did you grow up? Paris, behind fortified rampart walls. My mother, Queen Constance, was paranoid of Viking attacks, although France didn’t have any in over a hundred years. She insisted my father build the rampart walls stronger and higher to keep out any attacks. Unfortunately, neither of my parents like to travel and were afraid to leave the castle, so me and my brothers and sisters were stuck there. I think that’s why I longed to travel because I was pent out in a castle most of my childhood. Did you do well in school? School? You jest! Yes, I was tutored in Latin, but was a terrible student. Growing up, Ididn’t think it mattered whether I studied or not. My brother Hugh was to be King. Why should I mind my lessons? I always thought there was better things I could be doing. Horse riding, sword-fighting, archery skills were what I thought were better for me to learn. What is your greatest personal failing? My reputation around court is that I am a weak ruler. They all say I should be trying to conquer new lands and expand the royal domain. I want peace, not just for me, but for all of France. This land has seen a lot of bloodshed, for once, I would like my people to live without fear. I do think, I could do a better job standing up for myself and France. Maybe, in my desire for peace, I let others take advantage of me. How do you handle conflict? I was raised with conflict. My parents fought, and not just screaming matches. They at times threatened each other’s lives. My father hid in his library away from my mother and most of the court. My mother wielded a staff, threatening anyone who dared to confront her. I try not to runaway from conflict like my father, and not to be combative like my mother. Both are hard. I try to approach conflict balanced and fair. I listen and try to understand all sides, but sometimes, I must put my fist down. I am King, after all. What is the most pressing problem you have in your life? Peace in France. There are very powerful noblemen in France. They compete with each otherfor land and money. My job is to make sure they learn to live with one another and learn to respect each other’s differences. What do you like to do for fun? I like a good game of chess, hunting, but mostly I enjoy falconry. ![]() 1. What is your name? Bugul Noz. 2. Describe yourself and your kind. I am what is known as a tree troll. We are larger than korrigans, but not as big as regular forest trolls. My people grow to about three meters high. We have grayish green skin and have tiny wings to flutter over bushes and brooks in the forest. Gnats are our food of choice, but we do enjoy a good stick of wood filled with glow worms. They are yum to my tongue. 3. How old are you? 72 years young. Tree trolls can live hundreds of years. The oldest living tree troll is 632-years-old. I would be considered a frisky teenager to my kind. 4. Where were you born? I was born here in the enchanted forest, but I fell out of my cocoon before my wings were properly formed. Unfortunately, I was horribly deformed. 5. When you were a child, what was one thing you could always be sure of? When evil Prince Ulrion entered the forest and threatened all the creatures, my parents and the rest of the tree trolls abandoned me when they fled the forest. The one thing I could always sure of was my friendship with shape-shifting siren, Lucienne. She too lost her sisters to the evil Prince. She and I developed a beautiful bond. She looked after me, when no one else could tolerate looking at my hideousness, and I provided her company when she felt most lonely. 6. How do you deal with stress? I like to sit with the tiny little fairies, and let them flutter around my head. Nothing bad can happen to a tree troll when protected by the fairies. 7. What is your idea of a really fun time? I like to frolic in the brook and swim with the carp. Sometimes, Lucienne will join me. She will shape-shift into a fish, or a frog, and we will have a grand time. 8. What do you consider to be your most admirable personal quality? Helpfulness. I know I am not a pleasant creature to look at. To humans, the sight of me can kill. I will always be there to help an animal, a korrigan or human if lost in the enchanted forest. 9. Do you think others see it that way, or would they say something different about your strengths and weaknesses? It depends. Those with kind heart, will always be my friend. They will see beyond my ugliness. 10. Do you have love in your life right now? I would say Lucienne, but she is my best friend. Really, I love everything and everyone in the forest. |
